The Consumption of Beeswax Alcohol (BWA, Raydel) Improved Zebrafish Motion and Swimming Endurance by Protecting the Brain and Liver from Oxidative Stress Induced by 24 Weeks of Supplementation with High-Cholesterol and D-Galactose Diets: A Comparative Analysis Between BWA and Coenzyme Q.
Our exploration focused on the effects of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ) compared to beeswax alcohol (BWA) in the context of high cholesterol and d-galactose-induced challenges in zebrafish. Throughout a 24-week period, zebrafish exposed to a high-cholesterol and d-galactose diet showed decreased survivability. While BWA demonstrated a beneficial effect on survival, reducing adverse impacts effectively, we observed that CoQ consumption did not significantly improve the survivability of the zebrafish.
Both treatments showed some promise in preventing weight gain associated with the high-cholesterol and d-galactose diets. However, CoQ was less effective in influencing other markers such as blood cholesterol levels and liver health. For example, zebrafish receiving BWA had significant improvements in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and reductions in harmful liver markers compared to those treated with CoQ.
Overall, our findings indicate that while CoQ had some positive influences, its impact was not as strong as that of BWA, particularly regarding blood lipids and cognitive behavior. Therefore, CoQ did not demonstrate the expected significant benefits in managing high cholesterol when tested alongside BWA.

Coenzyme Q10 may lower cholesterol
Effects of dietary intervention on diabetic nephropathy: an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials.
We gathered insights from a comprehensive review that examined how coenzyme Q10 supplementation affects cholesterol levels in people with diabetic nephropathy. The review analyzed findings from multiple randomized controlled trials to assess the effectiveness of this treatment.
The results suggested that coenzyme Q10 supplementation may lead to improvements in several cholesterol markers. Specifically, we observed that there was moderate-quality evidence indicating significant reductions in total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels among patients receiving coenzyme Q10.
However, it's important to note that the evidence was rated as low quality regarding other cholesterol measures like high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), suggesting we should interpret these findings cautiously. Overall, while coenzyme Q10 shows potential benefits for high cholesterol, further research with larger sample sizes may be necessary for confirming these effects with greater certainty.
